Based in Philadelphia, Bob Davis was a tireless evangelist for classic soul music and African American empowerment in business. Particularly during the 1990s and 2000s, if Bob wasn’t writing one of his very opinionated pieces for Soul Patrol or running one of the Soul Patrol music conventions, he was providing commentaries on other radio stations or working with one of many organizations and foundations trying to preserve and enhance the legacy of Soul Music.

Bob tireless worked for years to interview classic soul and R&B artists, wanting to preserve their stories and their legacies, particularly as the artists of the 50s-70s were passing. In the process, he made Soul Patrol a treasure trove of Black music history and an archive of greatness.

Bob’s work was influential to me as I started SoulTracks as it was to many others who followed with our own missions to celebrate Black music. We all benefitted from his work and his pioneering attitude.  The 2020s were more difficult for Bob, as he faced health challenges. But he continued to write and to keep his Soul Patrol readers informed, always with a mission and with a strong opinion, right until his passing in 2024.
